There is something really special about photographing a newborn right where life is happening. As a San Francisco newborn photographer, I love when families choose in home newborn photography because it keeps things simple, comfortable, and true to this season of life.
Helen and Tim welcomed me into their San Francisco home to meet their sweet baby boy, Ollie. From the moment I arrived, the whole session felt calm and easy, exactly how newborn photos should feel.
One of the biggest perks of in home newborn photography is how practical it is, especially in those first couple of weeks. Everything your baby needs is already right there. Need a burp cloth or a change of clothes? You know exactly where it is. No packing the car. No rushing out the door. And honestly, leaving the house with a newborn can feel like a lot, so being able to stay home makes such a difference.
I also hear this all the time: “My house isn’t clean enough” or “My home isn’t aesthetic.” I promise you, that is not a thing. I do not need a perfect house. All I need is a window, a little light, and a family willing to slow down for a bit. We can make magic in the smallest corner.
Outside of the practical reasons, I am a very sentimental person. Photographing your baby in the home you brought them home to for the first time means so much to me. This is their first stop after the hospital, their first space after months of being tucked inside mom. Being able to capture your family in a place that already holds so many memories makes these photos feel even more meaningful.
My approach to newborn sessions is always baby led. If your baby needs a diaper change, we pause. If they need to eat, we take our time. There is no pressure to perform or “get the shot.” My goal is for you to spend most of the session snuggling your little one while I quietly document what this season really looks like. Think of me as your in-home paparazzi, there to capture all the sweet, fleeting moments you might not even realize are happening.
Helen and Tim’s home had the most beautiful natural light, including classic San Francisco bay windows that gave us the softest glow. We moved through spaces they actually use every day, even grabbing a few moments on the stairs. We wrapped up the session with some photos just outside their home, which felt like the perfect way to ground their story in this chapter of life.
Baby Ollie was the sweetest, and I loved getting to document these early days for their family. I hope you enjoy a look into their in home newborn photography session and feel inspired to capture your own story right at home.
